Overview

Garmin is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer 2 to design, develop, test, and maintain graphics technologies for Garmin avionics products using OpenGL and Vulkan APIs on multi-threaded platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute designs for new functionalities using C, OpenGL, and Vulkan APIs on multi-threaded platforms
  • Utilize software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes, and debuggers
  • May perform as a technical leader or Lead Software Engineer for derivative software projects
  • Collaborate through peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions
  • Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
  • Perform technical root cause analysis and outline corrective action for given problems
  • Contribute to technical research on new technologies
  • Estimate level of effort, evaluate new technology options, and provide feedback on electrical design aspects
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced software engineers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics, or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics with cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule
  • Demonstrated proficiency developing moderately complex software in C, C++, or other selected languages
  • Proficient knowledge of software engineering tools including configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators, and logic analyzers

Preferred

  • Experience developing 2D or 3D user applications
  • Experience with 2D or 3D graphics APIs (OpenGL, Vulkan, Metal) and rendering technologies
  • Experience with profiling and debugging tools for GPUs and embedded systems
