Overview

Garmin is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer 2 to work directly with customers to coordinate customized software and hardware solutions for Garmin Aviation flight deck integration.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute designs for new functionalities as part of software projects using C, Python, or other selected languages
  • Utilize software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes, and debuggers in the software development process
  • Perform as a technical leader or Lead Software Engineer for derivative software projects
  • Collaborate through peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions
  • Perform technical root cause analysis and outline corrective action for given problems
  • Contribute to technical research on new technologies
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced software engineers
  • Develop safety-critical airframe specific and airframe independent software functionality
  • Manage OEM relationships including proactive communication, requirements advocacy, and expectation calibration
  • Work cross-functionally with program coordination, systems, system test, human factors, and flight operations teams

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics, or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics with cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in C, C++, and Python, or other selected languages
  • Proficient knowledge and mastery of relevant software engineering tools including configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators, and logic analyzers

Preferred

  • Aviation industry background or pilot license
  • Defense industry or military background in aviation
  • Customer service oriented and comfortable interacting directly with customers
