Embedded Software Engineer
Overview
Garmin is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to solve real-world problems with embedded systems across biosensor, fitness, Varia cycling, and connected technology teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop moderately complex software in C, C++, C#, Java, assembly language, or other selected languages following Garmin’s coding standards
- Utilize software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes, and debuggers
- Create and execute designs for new functionalities as part of software projects
- Collaborate through peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions
- Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
- Perform technical root cause analysis and outline corrective action for given problems
- Serve as a mentor to less experienced software engineers
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve goals
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics, or a related technical field
- Minimum 1 year of work experience
- Outstanding academics with cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule
- Proficiency developing moderately complex software in C, C++, C#, Java, assembly language, or other selected languages
- Mastery of relevant software engineering tools including configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators, and logic analyzers
- Proficient ability to capture and document software requirements
- Eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Alberta
Preferred
- Low-power and constrained system development and verification
- Integrating and maintaining third-party software packages such as SDKs
- Hands-on experience with ANT or BLE focused software development on embedded systems
- Implementing low-level serial drivers on bare metal platforms (UART, SPI, SDIO)
- Working on projects with teams distributed across multiple sites
- Working on multiple simultaneous development projects
- Development of software for consumer electronics
