Embedded Wi-Fi Firmware Engineer
Overview
Ubiquiti is seeking an Embedded Wi-Fi Firmware Engineer to build firmware for new Wi-Fi 6, 6E, and 7 access points and routers, collaborating with global firmware and hardware teams.
Responsibilities
- Build firmware for new Wi-Fi 6, 6E, and 7 (802.11ax/be) access points and routers
- Collaborate with global firmware and hardware teams to deliver cutting-edge wireless networking products
- Develop and maintain user-space services and libraries including hostapd and wpa_supplicant integration
- Integrate third-party components and SDKs (QCA, MediaTek) into the OpenWrt-based firmware build system
- Maintain and improve existing product firmware for stability, performance, and security
- Work closely with HW and RF engineers on bring-up, calibration, board support, and issue investigation
- Optimize wireless performance including roaming, mesh, airtime fairness, OFDMA/MU-MIMO, DFS/ACS, and QoS
- Diagnose complex field issues using logs, packet captures, and on-device tracing and profiling
Requirements
- 3+ years of embedded firmware development in C and C++
- Solid understanding of Linux internals (process, memory, networking, netlink, epoll)
- Strong networking fundamentals: TCP/UDP, routing, firewalls (iptables, nftables), traffic control (tc)
- Experience with Wi-Fi stack concepts (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be), WPA2/WPA3 security, EAP/SAE
- Comfortable with Git and embedded build systems (OpenWrt, Buildroot, cross-compilation, toolchains)
- Fluent in English and Lithuanian
Preferred
- Linux wireless or driver experience (mac80211, cfg80211, NL80211) with ath10k, ath11k, or mt76
- Hands-on with hostapd and wpa_supplicant customization
- Experience with Qualcomm Atheros or MediaTek chipset SDKs and board bring-up
- RF basics: link budget, SNR, MCS, spectral scan, regulatory domains, DFS certification
- Mesh networking (802.11s, EasyMesh), band steering, roaming optimization
- Traffic analysis with Wireshark, tcpdump, radiotap, iPerf3
- Python or Bash for tooling and CI/CD familiarity
