Hardware Engineer
Overview
VIAVI is seeking a Hardware Engineer to design high-performance electronic boards at the core of fiber-optic test and measurement instruments, from hardware architecture through production release.
Please note that fluency in both English and French is required for this role.
Responsibilities
- Define hardware architecture of electronic boards considering power, thermal, signal integrity, EMC, and product specifications
- Design and validate electronic schematics; manage PCB routing and oversee prototype manufacturing
- Test, debug, and qualify prototypes; write test plans and qualification reports through production release
- Contribute to system integration in collaboration with embedded software and mechanical teams
- Monitor component availability and evaluate new technologies
- Document all developments including bills of materials, calculation notes, and definition files
Requirements
- Engineering degree in electronics
- At least 5 years of hardware design experience in an industrial R&D environment
- Strong command of high-speed digital design with understanding of analog constraints (noise, dynamic range, linearity)
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate with international stakeholders
- Fluency in English and French
- Digital design around FPGAs, SoCs, or microprocessors (DDR memories, DC-DC power, clocks, PCIe, USB 3.x, Ethernet GbE)
- VHDL and Verilog development for programmable logic (Xilinx or Intel)
- Proficiency in Cadence or equivalent EDA tools for schematic capture and PCB routing
- Knowledge of signal integrity and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
- C, C++, and Python for board bring-up, testing, and measurement automation
