Staff Digital Hardware Engineer
Overview
VIAVI is seeking a Staff Digital Hardware Engineer to lead the design and development of digital hardware systems for next generation avionics test equipment and radio test equipment.
Please note that this position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status (ITAR regulations) and the work mode is hybrid — confirm specifics with the recruiter.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop digital hardware systems including high-performance embedded processors, CPLDs, FPGAs, audio circuits, switching power supplies, ADC, DAC, and peripherals
- Work with high-speed busses such as DDR3/4, PCIe Gen 3/4, USB, and SerDes
- Use ECAD tools such as Cadence, Mentor Graphics, or Altium
- Use general test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)
- Design test boards and fixtures for board bring-up and PCBA testing
- Research and select components to meet design needs
- Test circuits and document results
- Perform technical root cause analysis and suggest corrective actions
- Estimate effort for design projects and execute to schedule
- Evaluate technology options and participate in design reviews
- Document designs including schematics, theory of operations, and troubleshooting guides
Requirements
- BSEE (Master’s degree a plus) or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of digital hardware design experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience designing circuits with DDR3, PCIe, and other high-speed busses
- Working knowledge of EDA tools including schematic capture, PCB layout, power and signal integrity simulation
- Experience with avionics, communications, or test equipment design preferred
- US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status required (ITAR)
